Mr. Jacob, the present Governor of Meghalaya hails from Ramapuram, near Palai. He started off his career as a national organiser of Seva Dal. He succeeded in elevating the activities of the Dal to a global level. He later became the Central minister of State for Parliamentary affairs and also Home Affairs.

The most beloved son of Pala, Mr. Mani has the record of being elected from the same assembly constituency 9 times consecutively. He also has the distinction and record of presenting the State budget a maximum of 8 times.
